Course Description: In this course, students will learn about medical terms are formed from word roots, combining forms, prefixes and suffixes, other terms, pharmacology, abbreviations, and how to apply this knowledge by completing work sheets in the required text.
Purpose of Course: To introduce students to medical terminology and to prepare them for studies in Western medicine courses.
Objective: The objective is to provide the student with basic principles of medical word building. These principles can readily be applied to building an extensive medical vocabulary.
Outcome of Learning Course: Students will be able to understand the basic medical terminology used in medical texts and to converse with other western doctors.
Method of instruction will consist of in-person lectures, reading assignments, class discussions, and handouts. Classroom questions and discussions are strongly encouraged. Other instructional techniques may also be employed i.e. audio-visual presentations, speakers, critical thinking exercises and group activities
